In2006 Dietmar Bahner met Kanchan Shukla and he started learning Hindiwith her. She was his first Indian Hindi teacher from Rishikesh inNorth India. After he returned to Germany he continued learning withKanchan through Textchat and Voicechat.

DietmarBahner realised the possibility of learning a foreign languageeffectively by those methods. He especially observed that onlinelearning creates a high state of consciousness because all of thesenses are focused.

Theconsequences of this experience combined with some changes inDietmar's life encouraged him to decide to visit India again.Together with Kanchan Shukla and a long term friend, Devendra SinghChauhan, he established the Himalayan Language Institute Pvt.Ltd, atthe end of 2007.

TheHLI started to teach online and also in its local classroom inRishikesh. Since then the number of students have continuously grownfrom all over the world. At present, two Hindi teachers and oneEnglish teacher are employed in our company.

InMay 2010 Shona Walton joined the HLI Team. She is a qualified andwell experienced English teacher from England, and she has lived inRishikesh for a long time. Besides teaching English online, she alsoteaches every day in our Institute classroom in Rishikesh.
